Metric vs. Rated Goals
How do you measure "Success"?

Metric and rated goals are two types of goals that can be assigned in the V2R application. Every time a new goal is added, the choice must be made to assign it as a metric goal or a rated goal. The default choice is a rated goal. Once a goal is added as either a metric goal or a rated goal it cannot be changed to the other type of goal.

Metric Goals
Metric goals are scored quantitatively by comparing the actual numeric results achieved for the metric to the previously defined rating scale that was added to the rating table in V2R.

Metric goals are used to create associate accountability for actual results that can be measured or quantified. Sales growth, defective parts, production efficiency and employee attendance are all metric goals whose results can be reported on a periodic basis.

Rated Goals
Rated Goals are scored subjectively by the Stakeholders that are assigned to rate the goal. A Stakeholder is anyone that is materially impacted by the success or failure of the goal. V2R recognizes these Stakeholder relationships through the unique associate alignment process referred to as a BasPac. BasPac is an acronym that stands for Boss, Associate, Staff, Provider, Associate and Customer relationships.

Stakeholders are responsible for assessing the associates of all goals they are assigned to. Stakeholders must compare actual results documented by the associate to the goal description and the anchor descriptions contained in the rating table for each goal. The more concise a goal and its anchor descriptions are defined in the rating table the easier it is for a Stakeholder to quantitatively assess or rate the goal. Associates that do a better job documenting their performance relative to accomplishing a goal usually translates into a higher performance rating by the Stakeholders.

Associates that are held accountable for results by the Stakeholders of their assigned goals feel a much greater sense of responsibility to perform. Developing this associate level performance responsibility drives "No Excuses" Strategy Execution which is key to helping an organization successfully translate their Vision2Reality.
